Kate Middleton has become a public figure, notable for her posh sense of style and poise, but in New York, the Duchess is revered for something entirely different – her nose.

While some fans may have their eyes locked on the young royal’s growing baby bump, according to a report by the New York Daily News, Middleton’s royal nose is the talk of the town in NYC. An increasing number of women in the Big Apple are turning to plastic surgery to get what the news source is calling “spring’s hottest accessory.”

Middleton’s nose is so popular, that one NYU student in her early 20s, Jessica Blaier, made headlines earlier this year after spending around $12,000 to have her nose look like Middleton’s.

“Every time she smiled it’s like, that’s what I want — I want my nose to be like that,’” admitted Blaier on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

However, the obsession with the Duchess’ seemingly perfect nose crosses continents as well. In Middleton’s native England, the royal nose was “most-requested celebrity facial feature in 2012.”

In fact, since 2011, Rhinoplasty procedures inspired by Middleton have tripled. But while some may just dismiss the fad as a mere phase, others offer a scientific explanation for the growing appeal over Middleton’s nose.

According to Carmen Lefevre, a psychologist who specializes in the study of facial attributes, there appears to be a “hard-wired evolutionary preference” for a nose like Middleton’s.

“The symmetry of Kate’s nose, the angle between her lip and the tip of her nose and the minimal amount of nostril on show, are all near-perfect,” explained Lefevre.

Indeed, the goal of plastic surgery, especially facial reconstructive surgeries like Rhinoplasty, is to improve the symmetry and overall aesthetic appeal of the feature in question, so it’s no wonder that so many women are seeking this particular kind of slim, delicate and feminine nose.

But while Middleton’s nose may be the most requested across several countries, the shape and size of her nose may not necessarily be ideal for everyone. Not every face can look natural or symmetrical with a thin nose. If prospective plastic surgery patients in New York don’t turn to an experienced and certified plastic surgeon for the treatment, they may end up with exactly the nose they want, but may regret the decision once they realize the smaller shape is not appealing when taking all the facial features into account.

At Shafer Plastic Surgery in New York, this isn’t something patients ever have to worry about. Experienced NYC plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer takes the time to work with patients to obtain an idea of what the ideal size and shape of their nose should be and would never perform a surgery that would not produce beautiful and optimal results for his patients.

Dr. Shafer takes into account his patients’ natural nasal features and their cosmetic goals, working with them to determine what the best approach would be before the surgery takes place. He can work with patients who desire a dramatic change in the appearance of their nose, as well as those who seek a more subtle nasal reconstructive treatment.
