Vaginal Rejuvenation / Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty (a.k.a. Vaginal Rejuvenation) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that reduces the size or changes the shape of the labia minora. Many women are born with large labia, but women can also develop this condition overtime as they age or after pregnancy. Enlarged labia can cause embarrassment with a sexual partner and in some cases cause chronic irritation or general discomfort in women who want to wear fitted clothing.
The procedure takes approximately one hour and is done under anesthesia. Afterwards you may experience some swelling and discomfort for the first few days, but pain is managed through medication. Most patients can return to work within four days after their surgery, but strenuous activity (such as exercise) should be avoided for at least four weeks. Sexual activity can be resumed between six to eight weeks after surgery. Dr. Shafer uses absorbable sutures, so there is no need to have them removed. Final healing takes about six weeks.
In some cases, patient also request Labia Major correction at the same time as Labia Minora reduction or as a separate procedure. Labia Major correction can be a reduction or augmentation with fat grafting or dermal fillers.
