Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a safe, effective, and quick method of removing unsightly hair on almost any area of the body. It’s an ideal solution for both men and women of all skin types. Shafer Plastic Surgery uses Cynosure’s Elite Aesthetic Workstation, which is one of the most comprehensive laser hair removal systems available on the market. Areas of the body for both men and women that can be treated include: legs, underarms, chest/breast, shoulders, back, buttocks, bikini line, arms, ears, nostrils, neck, and any other area of the body (minus the eyes).
Laser hair removal works by sending an intense and precise beam of light to a group of hair-follicles, destroying the root of the hair, but not harming the surrounding skin. The beam of the laser removes the hair by targeting melanin (the substance that gives hair its color).
Our laser hair removal is performed in the privacy of our uptown surgical suite (87th & 5th Avenue). It’s also possible to combine laser hair removal with any surgical procedure. For instance, if you’re having liposuction, you can also have laser hair removal on another area of your body during the same day while you’re under anesthesia.
Anesthesia: Not required
Length of procedure: varies depending on the area being treated
Length of stay: Outpatient
Anticipate: Minor discomfort, some redness/puffiness of the treated area for a few minutes to a few hours after the procedure
Final result: You will see immediate results after your first session, but they vary from person to person. Several sessions are required to see permanent hair removal
Duration of results: Long-lasting
What to Expect
Immediately after your treatment, you may experience mild redness and/or puffiness. This effect will dimension within a few minutes to a few hours. Most people return to work and normal activities immediately after the treatment.
It’s also important to note that laser hair removal will not work for people with red, white, gray, or blonde hair. Although you will see immediate results after your first session, multiple sessions are required for permanent hair removal. Results can also vary from person to person. Age, skin type, hair color, texture, and the amount of hair are all factors that can affect the number of required sessions for permanent hair removal.
