“Latisse is a great product for growing eyelashes,” said plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer of New York. “It has worked on every single person that I have prescribed it for. I think it would be more widely used if the price point was lower. For many women … it has become an essential part of their daily skin-care routine.” Shafer said the year’s biggest story was the introduction of Dysport injections as a competitor to Botox, which is made by Allergan. “It is nice to have another botulinum toxin type A product approved to compete with Botox Cosmetic,” he said. “However, the name Dysport has not caught on and is generally referred to as ‘The New Botox.’ ” “Also, it is marked as ‘cheaper than Botox.’ However, we are talking about 5 percent or less cheaper. What is a savings of $25 when you are spending $1000 or more? Not much of a savings.” On the deaths in Argentina and Brazil, Shafer commented, “Why people leave the USA to have plastic surgery is beyond me. We have the highest trained and most experienced surgeons. When patients are properly cleared by their doctor for surgery and the procedure is performed in an accredited facility the procedures are very safe and effective.”

【本報綜合外電報導】正考慮腹部拉皮嗎？還是需要整鼻？最新的蘋果應用軟體可以指點迷津。目前有兩種整形手術的iPhone應用軟體，提供用戶相關資訊和遊戲，讓使用者能更明確地想像自己動過整形手術後的模樣。夏佛整形手術應用軟體（Shafer Plastic Surgery App 圖／取自網路）十月在蘋果iPhone軟體商店亮相，是八萬五千種軟體中此類產品的先驅。於紐約設立診所的整形醫生夏佛（David Shafer）開發了這項軟體，目標瞄準「高水準、好奇心強又愛挖資訊」的現代病患，並結合豐富的資料庫，裡頭有超過一千個關於特定整形手術的問與答。繼這項整形軟體之後，另一項由邁阿密整形醫生（Michael Salzhauer）薩澤爾開發的「i整型專家」（iSurgeon）軟體也即將問世。這名醫生二○○八年出版《我的漂亮媽咪》（My Beautiful Mommy）一書，幫助四到七歲孩童面對整形手術。該軟體結合遊戲模式，使用者可以試著親自操作數十種整形手術，快速改造照片中的自己，或者在朋友身上大作文章。「i整形專家滿足雙重目的，除了讓有興趣整型的人更清楚預見手術後的樣貌，它也是一項充滿樂趣的遊戲。」夏佛整形手術軟體完整版要價二點九九美元（約新台幣九十七元），i整形專家發行的第一個月完全免費。

［ロサンゼルス　２日　ロイター］　米アップルの携帯電話「ｉＰｈｏｎｅ（アイフォーン）」向けに、美容整形手術のアプリケーションが２つ登場。ユーザーは、情報収集やゲーム、整形のシュミレーションなどもできるという。　１０月に発売が開始された「Shafer Plastic Surgery App」は、ニューヨークに拠点を置くデビッド・シェーファー博士が開発したもの。「情報を求めている洗練された人々」をターゲットにしており、美容整形手術の手順に関する１０００件以上の質問と答えが揃ったデータベースを使える。　１１月中にリリースされる予定の２つ目のアプリケーション「iSurgeon」は、２００８年に美容整形手術についての理解を促す子ども向けの本「My Beautiful Mommy（原題）」を出版したマイアミのMichael Salzhauer博士が開発。美容整形手術を希望している人に予想される手術後の姿をはっきりと示す機能と、ゲーム機能を楽しめる。　「Shafer Plastic Surgery App」の価格は約３ドルで、「iSurgeon」は発売月は無料で提供されるという。

In fact, there are now two plastic surgery applications, or apps, for Apples iPhone that offer users information, games and the chance for people to envisage what they would look like with a new nose, face lift or many other procedures. The Shafer Plastic Surgery App was launched in October as the first such product among the more than 85,000 offerings in Apples iPhone App Store. Created by New York-based Dr. David Shafer, it is aimed at modern patients who are "sophisticated, inquisitive and information seeking," and it taps into a database of more than 1000 questions and answers about specific cosmetic surgery procedures. The Shafer Plastic Surgery App costs $US2.99 in its full version, while iSurgeon will be free during its first month of release later in November.
